Cut the white bread into very narrow slices and cut out the crust. Spread with butter. Cover half of the slices with Parma ham and cheese and place a buttered slice of bread on top of each.
Turn in flour, then in properly beaten egg and then in breadcrumbs on the other side.
Heat the fat in a frying pan and fry the slices of bread until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and place on the table.
This dish is suitable as a light snack. It is better served hot.
Omit white bread and just turn ham and cheese in flour, bread crumbs and egg to the other side and fry.
A similar dish is known in France as Croque Monsieur, only they use cruyere cheese and omit the breadcrumbs.
Tip: Always use an aromatic ham, it will add a wonderful touch to your dish!
