Peel the onion and garlic cloves and chop very finely. Cut the pumpkin flesh into small cubes. Sauté the onions and garlic in the olive oil, add the pumpkin cubes and herbs and sauté briefly, add the cream, simmer over low heat for 4 to 6 minutes, depending on the size of the pumpkin cubes. Spread into an oiled gratin dish. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Beat the eggs, stir in the cheese, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Spread over the pumpkin cubes. Bake the pumpkin casserole in the preheated oven at 180°C for about 25 minutes.Variation: Before baking, sprinkle rosemary needles over the casserole or place a whole sprig on top. If desired, sprinkle with black olives and bake.
