A great cake recipe for any occasion:

Crumble the yeast and let it melt in the water in a baking bowl together with salt. Add the bread spice. Mix thoroughly with flour, butter and syrup to form a smooth dough. Cover with a tea towel and place in a warm place to rise. Knead again.

Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thick. using a saucer, mark the outlines for the loaves, using a shot glass, cut out a hole in each piece of dough. Place the perforated loaves on two greased baking sheets, prick them several times with a fork and let them rise with the lid closed. Bake in a heated oven at 200 °C for about 25 to half an hour. Cool on a cooling rack.

Serve with a variety of jams.

or sprinkle with poppy seeds.
