Main characteristics: Mouth slightly superior and fissure directed upward, eyes with brass-yellow iris, fin color blood-red Habitats: the rudd is a schooling fish that prefers stagnant (ponds, pools, lakes) and leisurely flowing waters up to about 900 m above sea level. Here it mainly inhabits shallow, soft-greened and plant-rich areas.

The rudd is found in Europe from the Ural Mountains to the Pyrenees. The northern limit of its distribution is in Finland, the southern limit is along the Tiber River (Italy) and in Macedonia.

Diet: Adult rudd feed mainly on aquatic plants (milfoil, waterweed, pondweed, etc.) and to a lesser extent on invertebrates of the riparian zone.

Size: the average size is 20 cm, the maximum length is 50 cm, then weighing up to more than 2 kg Age: 10 to 12 years
