Soak the beans in enough tap water to cover them for one night. Drain and cover with fresh tap water.
Bring to a boil and simmer until tender. Drain and rinse under cold running tap water. Place in a suitable bowl. Add molasses, sugar, spices and tomato juice and mix. Saute the onion in butter and add to the beans with the bacon.
Put the quantity in gratin dish and bake in oven at 150 °C for 3 hours.
Our tip: Use bacon with a fine smoky touch!
