For the hearty sunflower bread, first fry the chopped onions in oil and let cool.

Warm the buttermilk slightly, add the syrup and let the yeast melt in it. Mix the flour in a baking bowl and make a bulge in the center. Sprinkle the salt around it. Pour the buttermilk yeast into the hollow and mix the dough with the mixer (dough hook).

Then add the cooled onion cubes and the sunflower seeds and knead the whole thing all over again. Cover the baking bowl with a harness and let it stand in a warm place for 40 minutes.

Grease a loaf pan or use a silicone loaf pan (there is no need to grease it) and when it has risen, pour the dough into it. Dust the surface with a little flour and score it.

Place the savory sunflower bread in the cold oven and bake at 160 °C convection oven for 80 to 90 minutes.
