For the homemade eggnog, bring the milk, whipping cream and vanilla sugar to the boil and simmer for about 8 minutes.

When cool, gradually add the egg yolks and powdered sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Finally, stir in the cognac.

The homemade eggnog should be stored in the refrigerator.
