Instructions:

Place the bread slices in a bowl. Whisk together the milk, salt, lemon zest, sugar and eggs and pour over the buns. Leave the mixture to stand for 30 minutes.

Grease a baking dish with a little butter. Preheat the oven to 200 °C.

Now alternately layer the bread mixture and the cherries in the baking dish: The last layer should consist of bread rolls. If there is any egg milk left, pour it over the top. Put the remaining butter as flakes on top.

Put the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes.
