A great cake recipe for any occasion:
Put the rusk or possibly the leftover cake in a suitable bowl and pour the milk.
Quarter the apples, peel them, remove the core and cut them into fine slices. Mix the apple slices well with 2 tablespoons of sugar and sprinkle with the juice of one lemon.
Separate the eggs into egg whites and egg yolks. Beat the egg yolks with the remaining sugar and the lemon zest until creamy. Add the curd and continue mixing until creamy.
Grease an ovenproof dish well. Pour in the soaked onions or leftover cake and smooth the surface. Spread the apple slices evenly on top.
Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
Whip the egg whites with the salt until stiff, fold into the curd cream and spread the mixture over the apples. Bake the casserole on the middle shelf of the oven for 40-50 minutes.
Serve with: cold vanilla sauce
