For the apple strudel, remove the strudel sheets from the refrigerator about 10 minutes before processing.preheat the oven to 200°C.
Peel and core the apples and cut into small cubes. Sprinkle with lemon juice, mix with rum raisins, sugar, vanilla sugar, nuts or almonds, cinnamon and salt and let stand for about half an hour.Brown breadcrumbs in a little butter or margarine.
Place 2 – 3 strudel sheets next to each other, slightly offset, brush with melted butter and place 2 – 3 more dough sheets on top. Spread toasted breadcrumbs and apple mixture on the bottom third of the dough. Fold the strudel dough in at the sides and roll up with the help of the kitchen towel. Place the strudel with the seam side down diagonally on a baking tray lined with baking paper and brush with melted butter.
Bake the apple strudel in the preheated oven on the middle shelf for about 35 minutes until golden brown and serve it still warm sprinkled with powdered sugar.
