For this red cabbage recipe, remove the outer leaves from the cabbage, cut out the stalk and finely chop.

Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the cabbage and sauté for 5 minutes, stirring throughout. Add vinegar, 2 tablespoons water, salt + pepper.

Cover and steam on low heat for about 1 hour. Stir in between and add a little water if needed.

Shortly before the end of the cooking time, grate the peeled apple or cut into small pieces and add to the red cabbage with the currant jelly. If you like, you can season with sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.
