For the cooked fried sausages with mashed potatoes Boil and peel potatoes and prepare with butter, a little milk and a little salt to a firm (!) mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes should not be too thin.
While the potatoes are still cooking, wash the sausages and boil them well in 3/4 liter of water together with the bay leaves. Prick the sausages a few times, otherwise they will burst. If they are already cooked through, continue cooking for a good 20 minutes anyway.
The piercing and cooking will cause some of the spices from the bratwurst to transfer into the water. Don’t be fooled if it tastes a tiny bit bland at first. The flavor doesn’t develop until the end of the cooking time and then it can get quite fiery, depending on the bratwurst. If you like, you can add a little parsley or salt.
Then arrange the mashed potatoes in a deep plate. Push it to the side, leaving half of the plate free, and pour the sausage and clear soup into this free half….
Enjoy the cooked bratwurst with mashed potatoes quickly, otherwise the whole thing will turn into potato soup with bratwurst.
